Why are the gongfu teacups small?

Teacups used for gongfu brewing are small, even compared to English teacups, as they are meant to be refilled more often and used for flavor evaluation. 

The short distance between your nose and the bottom of the teacup allows you to smell the leftover scent from high-quality tea leaves.
